Once the ante is placed and everyone has their cards, it’s time to start betting. When a player wants to make a bet they must say “call” or “raise.” Saying either of these words means that you are placing the same amount in the pot as the person to your right.

After the first round of betting is complete the dealer puts three more cards on the board that everyone can use. This is called the flop. After a second round of betting is completed the dealer puts a fifth card on the board that everyone can use. This final round of betting is called the river. When the river is called, players reveal their cards and the player with the highest ranked hand wins the pot.
